Cultural hobbies

During the 12 months prior to the Time Use Survey, 34 per cent of the population aged 10 or over had creative art hobbies. Creative art hobbies in this context refer to the playing of a musical instrument, singing, acting, writing of fiction and fine arts. Women had more creative art hobbies than men. Art hobbies are the most widespread among children. In 1999, approximately 70 per cent of the 10 to 14 age group had some creative art hobby. Today, 75 per cent of the 10 to 14 age group have some creative art hobby.

Description of indicator

The time use survey is an interview survey in which the respondents keep an accurate diary of their time use over a two-day period. Besides the time used for different activities, the survey also studies the daily and weekly rhythms of time use, and the time spent together with other people.
